there is a new name on cargo edition, but by no means an unknown one. as a dj markus schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the berlin club scene. markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo eps and collaborations with tom clark on highgrade records and opossum recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. and now for his first ep on cargo edition, markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. drippin is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of sean andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. in contrast flippin gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of less is more. as a perfect ending restart surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. a truly versatile ep from a truly versatile producer.

emptyset is a bristol based production project formed by james ginzburg, aka ginz, boss of the multiverse network of labels and paul purgas a longstanding electronic dj/collector and curator of this years we can elude control compilation. their collective agenda has been exploring techno music�s diverse influences and compiling them to a studio template focused on tight production and detailed sound design. inspired by the city�s culture of bass lead production as well as the global resurgence of electronic music, the sound has been described as techno meets dubstep folded back onto techno again, a description which is perhaps the most insightful to date. the project owes credit to the classic releases of m-plant, sahko and chain reaction as well as more recent producers such as alva noto, deathprod and burial. emptyset acts as a research project connecting the ideas of a modern dancefloor with experimental approaches to music and its design.

the choice of anja schneider for remix duties was an obvious one, the pair first met on a shuttle bus to an event and in short stead paul was co-writing for anja, becoming part of the driving force behind her huge debut album �beyond the valley�, now she pulls out all the stops to reciprocate with this standout reworking.
first up on the package is the anja schneider remix of �three weeks�, the opening cut from paul�s recent album. here the pair, deconstruct the parts and rebuild things into a deep and hypnotic version that has instant dancefloor appeal stamped all over it. solid, chunky drums rub up against simple spacey synth lines and warm pads to huge effect. bearing in mind the superb quality of the original this is a job well done, and a real addition to this great package.
next we have the original of �three weeks�, a track named after the extensive time it took to record. paul had originally intended to record the album in 6-8 weeks, then ended up spending nearly half of his allocated time on this opener. but it has to be said it was worth the effort. this is a slice of solid tech inspired house with subtle vocal elements and a musicality that cuts through the records club based nature. excellent stuff.
finally we have diamant flute, another winner from the �me, myself and live� album. deep and highly engaging this again displays paul outstanding talents as a producer, weaving melodic elements deep into the mix and retaining an incredible underground electronic sound.

peter kruder returns to the gigolo mega-church to present two new tracks from his recent arsenal of techno and house dance-floor bombs. needless to say 2009 has been a good year for gigolo and hell with the high times being shared by peter kruder. beginning back in march when we released peter kruders first 12 inch in 7 years as part of the cd eleven release. followed swiftly by the release of dj hells acclaimed >teufelswerk< album, recorded and produced largely in peter kruders vienna based studio. so as we approach the end of 2009 it gives us great pleasure to announce the latest ep >hard to find<.
on the a-side you find the title track, which takes in influences from detroit techno circa the age of ur to north african hooks. the filter sweep towards the end, which serves as the drop/break, is a master-class in restrained modulation that is bound to ignite any dance floor. on the b-side we find >25 west 38th st.< a slightly more reserved affair opening with the sound of the ocean air, then swiftly diving into a bass driven groove, which features lush strings and a piano-led top line creating a track that is as atmospheric as it is rhythmic. the ep itself takes influence from the b-side on two levels, the most immediate being the title of the track, which is the address of the old nu groove records offices. this is peter kruders homage to a time when dance music served as a momentary escape, an opportunity to make those around happy. it also brings peters relationship with gigolo records full circle, having begun in 2004 with his >nu groove< remix of hells >listen to the hiss<.
resident advisor recently alluded to the idea that peter kruders finest solo work is coming exclusively through gigolo records. it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility as this latest record goes a long way to proving. with such a statement in mind we invite you to listen to the latest release from peter kruder.

our jazzy multi instrumentalist, dewalta a.k.a. david koch, returns to vakant with another popping fresh release, as earnestly house as house can get. since his first vakant release in 2008 (va021 salgaro/farina) davids music has taken him around the world in black largely covering our earths northern and southern hemispheres. side a is graced by move yo sitting as close to late 1990s baby ford as one can get without a time machine and personal guide to londons underground. david somehow owns this genre while still making it distinctly his. b1 night shade keeps the housey goose bumps going with a drier and more direct approach. cheeky bleeps and chunky bass balance dark spacey vocals to land the track somewhere between night and day. >angels trumpet< at the b2 position closes this stellar ep out with a track that again borrows from the genre, but continues way beyond its standards with melodic elements that push and pull you in multiple directions resulting in no less than dance floor catharsis.

the title of max coopers stochastisch serie ep, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known traum releases in the past. the london based artist max cooper sees his new 12 inch as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as i and end of reason. it is no surprise that dischordance is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. the friction max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. his dance floor rockers stochastisch serie and mnemonic work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure stochastisch serie. the remix of uk producer leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger djs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.

we are delighted to announce the wagon repair debut of montreal native stephen beaupre. one half of crackhaus, a long time collaboration with deadbeat, stephen has recently released solo material on labels from musique risque and ~scape, and put out his debut album on mutek�s own imprint in 2006. in honour of the great ancient persian empire, �achaemenid� roams stridently with tight kick, clangorous melodic cascades and prodding rhythmic tones. ethereal string pads and moaning atmospherics imply conflict, narrated by catchy vocal passages from beyond the murky depths. a reverberant rhythmic synth line injects life into �lotus eaters�, with static vocal samples and penetrative melodic tones forming sonic structures around deep tom and rattled hat. grossly intoxicating, elements lull into a mellow haze before reanimating into a wildfire finale.
